Dirt Jump Bikes

Even though you have most likely seen people on YouTube dirt jump, you need to understand that you do not need a special kind of bike to pull off one of these tricks. I know that you are wondering if mountain bikes will work, and yes they will work well for dirt jumping. Using a mountain bike may be a little hard though, because these bikes are made to be raced. But you can still use them and any other bike you may want to use.

The following are a few bikes you can use to dirt jump and how well they will do:
Jump Bikes: These kind of bikes are made for dirt jumping. Even though they look a lot like mountain bikes, the seats on them are lower to the ground so when tricks are done, the seat does not get in the person’s way. These bikes also have frames and wheels that are heavy duty, so that they can withstand any kind of trick the rider might do. Jump bikes are made to be extremely light, but still durable enough to take whatever kind of jumps occur. To make the bike more twitchy and offer more control to the person riding it, it usually has a front suspension.

A Mountain Bike: Just as was said before, you can use mountain bikes that have been modified for dirt jumping. People that are really into the sport will usually put front suspension on their small mountain bikes and use wheels that are much smaller than usual. Of course, they do not always utilize front suspension, but when they do, it gives them a much better experience.

BMX Bikes: Frames from BMX bikes can be changed so that they will work for dirt jumping. Many times they will have a elongated top tube that works to distribute the weight of the rider to the back of the bike so that they rider can easily do an ollie or a wheelie. The chainstay isn’t as long either, so that more of the weight is properly balanced for tricks. The tires used on a BMX bike are the same as those used for jump bikes, and they are not filled up all with way with air so they have a more absorbent landing.

Since the sport involving  jumping with dirt bikes is pretty new, there are not a lot of rules for manufacturers to follow -this might be why there are so many custom made jump bikes. No matter the reason, these types of bikes will no doubt be for sale very soon as a legitimate type of bike.
