How to Choose the Right Electric Shaver
Posted by: Alex | Category: Home & Family
You’ve probably been using a shaver since around the time you hit puberty. You probably had a conversation with your father and he took you into the bathroom to show you how to shave. Unfortunately for a lot of us guys it would a short 60 second demo involving his old disposable razor. The odd thing is that I learned in this manner, yet I kept doing this type of shaving well into my adult years. It wasn’t until I was older when I started asking question. Is this the best way to shave? Could I get something better and faster? Obviously these questions led me to the electric razor and I have to say I’m happy that I did. The only issue is that you need guidance in what to look for. It isn’t like a disposable razor. You need to know the key features that will help you.
Make Sure the Shaver Self Cleans
My first big mistake was buying a razor that required me to manually clean it. I did save a little money doing this, but I have to say it was by far the worst way to save money. A disposable razor is easy to clean because all you have to do is run it under the tap. An electric shaver requires you to open it up and take it apart partially. It’s literally an hour long task every few weeks to clean. I honestly didn’t want to spend my free time fiddling and cleaning out the hair in my shaver. You may think you can get around it, but you’ll eventually have to clean it.
When you look at the best electric shaver ratings you’ll notice that they self cleaners typically rank higher and have higher customer satisfaction. The reason for this is that you don’t have to do a thing. Basically your razor will come with a charging dock. You will always set it in there to charge after each use. The only difference is that the self cleaner is in the dock, so you don’t have to do anything. It takes a few hours to complete, but you probably won’t touch the shaver until the next day.
Technology to Lift Hair Up
This is a very important feature to ensure that you get a close shave and an efficient one. Old shavers will just push the hair down as you run the shaver over your face. This makes it very hard for the razor to actually cut the hairs and cut them close. The keyword you should be looking for is “foil”. This is main technology for lifting hair as the shaver goes over your face. Sometimes they use a different name, mainly for marketing, because no one really knows what a foil is. You’ll hear things like “Hair Lift Technology” to describe the same thing. Either way, this is something you need and if you’re unsure in anyway that the shaver doesn’t have it, don’t buy it. The best electric razors on the market will have some sort of technology like this.
Avoid Cheap, Avoid Expensive
The cheap shavers are absolute junk. They’re not going to have any of the features listed above and it will probably break down within a few months. This isn’t an item you want to go cheap with. Conversely, you don’t want to go after the real expensive either. I’ve found that expensive shavers are selling you a brand and image. They have the features listed above, but you can also find that in the middle too. I’ve found that you’re better off if you go for about $125 to $150. You can find all the features you need in a shaver without actually wasting your money.
